The Photoshop Surrealist Collage

After researching the aesthetic characteristics of Surrealism from a media perspective, students embark on a vision quest into the realm of the unconscious and give extraordinary meaning to ordinary things. This activity takes a deeper dive into digital storytelling using Photoshop and having more creative fun.

By the end of this activity students will demonstrate understanding of:

-history and aesthetics of Surrealism and Collage from a digital media perspective
-skill using Photoshop/Photopea/Pixlr and similar bitmap editing programs
-rulers, guides, units of measurement
-sizing, resolution, dpi
-editing, cropping, feathering, masking, retouching
-layer pallet organization
-colour theory
-composition
-typography
-alternate draft creation
-publishing to print and web using Adobe Creative Suite
